The Vietnam Veterans Memorial Paddle-out
More than 58,000 men and women gave their full measure of devotion and paid the ultimate sacrifice during the Vietnam War. In the spirit of the Hawaiian tradition, a ceremonial paddle-out is often performed by surfers who wish to remember and honor those who have given their lives. This paddle-out is in memory of those fallen heroes. All veterans who served in any location or capacity during the Vietnam War are encouraged to participate in the paddle-out ceremony. The public is invited to witness this special event and partake in all other associated activities to show support to our American heroes both then and now. This is a challenge to all Vietnam Veterans to come together and again remember our fallen. It is not for us. It is for them.
In the spirit of the Hawaiian tradition, a ceremonial paddle-out is often performed by surfers who wish to remember and honor those who have given their lives. For many Vietnam Veterans, the ocean and the freedom of surfing has provided a unique escape from the memories of war.
